This is the first lecture of the "New Era of Cosmic Exploration" lecture series, which would focus on how human beings explore the universe, and how do we understand the universe through observations and the stories behind. Below is the outline of the first lecture.

It is almost 400 years since the invention of telescope, while the use of telescope marked the beginning of modern astronomy, which opened a window of universe for mankind to explore, and lead to a scientific revolution. In this short period of time, our understanding of the universe has been changed totally, from the vision of only 5 planets to a picture with dark energy dominated accelerating universe. After 400 years of telescope invention, the tools for cosmic exploration is everchanging, many giant telescopes with 10 meters aperture are constructed, satellites and multiwavelength observations are now opened new pages for our unseen universe.
